Mother's Day is a great time to bring out your creative side. Most moms love a homemade gift. This Shrinky Dink Handprint Keychain is a simple but sweet gift to give to the mom or grandma in your life. Here's how to make it.
Here is what you will need to create your own keychain:
- Shrink Film Sheets
- Paint or Stamp Pad
- Foam Brush
- Paint Marker (Optional)
- Scissors
- Hole Punch
- Keychain Hardware
Start by covering your child's hand in any paint color of your choice.
Gently place it down on the Shrink Film sheet. The sheet will be slippery so make sure you have control over placing the handprint.
Let it air dry completely. This should only take a few minutes.
Use the paint marker to add an "M" on both sides of the handprint. Let it dry.
Cut around the outer edge of the design. It will shrink quite a bit so be sure not to cut it too small.
Punch a hole on the outer edge of the film. Be sure not to place the hole too far towards the middle.
Place your design on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Place a piece of parchment paper on top of it to prevent it from curling over on itself. Bake your design according to the directions on your package. It typically bakes around 300 degrees for 2-3 minutes.
As soon as it comes out of the oven, gently press down on it with a spatula. It will be hot! This will help flatten it.
Use pliers to add hardware to your design.
