No Sew Koozie Tutorial for Father's Day

No Sew Koozie Tutorial for Father's Day

Every Father's Day, I try to come up with a handmade gift that my kids can make for their dad. This year is no exception. My hope is that each gift will be well-loved, practical, and serve as a future memory when our children are grown. Here's how to make a no-sew koozie for dad's favorite drinks!

Gather your supplies. Here's what you will need:

  • Bandana
  • Piece of Felt
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Velcro
  • Glue Gun with Glue Sticks

TIP: You can use fabric glue as well. You will just need to account for a longer drying time. This may be a better option if you have little hands helping you.

Start by laying your bandana out on a flat surface. You will use the creases of the folded bandana as a guide. Most bandanas are folded the same way in all stores. Use a ruler to measure out 12" wide with the creases running left to right. Cut from the 12" mark up to the first crease. Once you reach the first crease, cut across your bandana right along the crease to form a rectangle.

Next, lay your piece of felt on top of your bandana and cut a piece just smaller than your first rectangle. Leave approximately 1/2" of space on either side of the felt when placed on top of your first rectangle.

Cut a smaller rectangle from your bandana that is around the same size as your piece of felt. Here's how your pieces should look:

Center your piece of felt onto the larger rectangle. Glue it down using a couple thin lines of hot glue.

Glue the smaller rectangle on top of the felt with a couple more lines of hot glue.

A bandana felt sandwich if you will. There should be overlapping space from the first rectangle as seen below.

Fold the larger rectangles edges on top of the smaller rectangle, gluing it down as you go. Start with the shorter sides first.

Continue this step with the longer edges until you have completely folded and glued all sides.

Cut the pieces of velcro, both the rough and soft sides, just shorter than the length of the shorter edges of your bandana. This will be approximately 1.5"-2".

Glue those pieces down on opposite ends and opposite sides of your bandana rectangle so that when you close your banana into a cylinder shape, the velcro pieces match up.

Wrap it around your favorite can of soda and enjoy!

Give it as a gift to all of the dad's in your life. They will love using it every time they take a swig of their favorite drink!

This koozie tutorial will fit a standard-sized can. Please remember to use caution with kids when using a hot glue gun.
